Jersey City Dance Project (JCDP) is a new nonprofit dedicated to making dance accessible, inclusive, and inspiring for everyone who wants to discover the joy and healing from dance.

Our first initiatives will include:
Community Dance Workshops – we will focus on the underserved community by offering accessible classes for local youth & senior citizens.

Movement for Wellness – Programs for older adults and diverse bodies to stay active and connected.

Founders Campaign – Raise funds to launch programs

Goal: Raise $25,000 to launch Jersey City Dance Project’s first programs.
Your donations will:
Secure a rehearsal and workshop space for community classes
Hire our first teaching artists and choreographers
Fund insurance, music licensing, and basic equipment
Offer scholarships for children and adults who can’t afford tuition
Develop partnerships with schools, senior centers, and community groups

Spring 2026

Pilot Classes & Community Workshops

We’ll launch:
Community Dance Workshops in public spaces, parks, and shared studios
Movement for Wellness programs for seniors and adults with limited mobility
Emerging Artist Residencies giving local choreographers rehearsal time and mentorship
Pop-up Dance Days — free events inviting the public to dance with us
Each step helps us build relationships, gather data, and shape our future home.

Summer–Fall 2026

First Public Performances & Expanded Class offering

We’ll present:
“Jersey City Moves”, a community performance series featuring youth, adults, and professional artists
Collaborative works with local musicians and visual artists
Outdoor and site-specific performances that transform everyday spaces into living art

a family who has lived and breathed dance for generations.

Serena Brown

Executive Director

Award-winning dancer and educator. BFA in Dance from Montclair State University. Recipient of the New Jersey Governor’s Award for Dance Arts in Education and the Linda Roberts Outstanding Senior Dancer Award. Serena brings heart, artistry, and a vision for community impact.

Jeannette Pilger-Brown

Artistic Director

Owner & Director of Jersey City Dance Academy (est. 1972), Jeannette has trained generations of dancers across Hudson County. Her lifelong dedication to excellence and access continues through JCDP’s mission to serve the next generation.
